Two Workshops = Single Event (IPD and Takt Planning)

  • P2SL Berkeley, CA United States (map)

vPlanner and P2SL are pleased to announce a two-workshop event in September. On September 19th we will host "The Sutter Way" Day which will focus on the best practices for setting up and managing IPD. On the 20th and the 2tst, we will offer again our signature 2-Day Takt Planning Workshop.

Sold Out!

The Sutter Way (Sept 19th)

This will be a full day featuring presentations by Digby Christian, Executive Director of Project Delivery, at Sutter Health. Sutter Health pioneered the development of the Integrated Form of Agreement (IFOA), a Lean Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) method, and has used it successfully on dozens of projects since 2007. Those projects consistently met or exceeded their Conditions of Satisfaction (CoS) set forth at the start of design. Several are industry recognized as trend-setting and are the source for much of the IPD best practices currently used in the industry and around the world. Digby was part of the Sutter Journey since the beginning. He will share what Sutter Health has learned during its IPD journey. He will highlight the evolution of the IPD delivery method, Sutter’s record, and Sutter’s current best practices for managing IPD projects. He will discuss among other things: the validation process, setting target costs, team selection, negotiation of the IPD contract, project management best practicing, and the elements of the business deal including the risk and reward framework. Sustaining an IPD program for so long requires internal alignment as well and Digby will touch upon Sutter’s efforts to keep maintain a highly functional internal construction management program.

This is a must-attend event for any owner interested in improving the reliability of their project delivery.

Owners and attendees of the Takt Planning Workshop will have registration priority.

Takt Planning Workshop (Sept 20th and 21st)

The workshop features 2-days of hands-on learning, including simulations, discussion, and problem-solving. Attendees will leave with an appreciation of how takt enables lean thinking and how it gives focus to continuous improvement efforts. Attendees will also leave with a solid understanding of how takt fits in the overall framework of the Last Planner System® and how it can improve the flow of work on projects. Prof. Iris Tommelein (P2SL), Samir Emdanat (vPlanner), and Matthew Jogan (vPlanner) will facilitate the workshop.

Sept 20th: Takt Simulation

Day 1 features a simulation and group activities designed to teach the principles of takt planning and how takt can be used to improve the flow of work on projects. Through short presentations, group activities, and in-depth discussion, participants will understand takt planning and its relation to lean thinking.

Sept 21st: Project Application

Day 2 features an application of the principles to implement takt on a project. Participants will work in groups to develop a takt plan from a set of drawings while using the concept of work density. They will learn the best practices for work structuring, phase planning, takt analysis, crew balancing, and how to apply them in real-world situations.

Early Registration Fees: $750-$2000. After August 12th $850-$2250. The owner rate for The Sutter Way event is $250.

Covid-19 Policy: Participants must comply with all applicable Covid-19 protocols in California, the City of Berkeley.
